For The Days You Don’t Feel Like Posting…

Social media is rarely an accurate depiction of real-life. As hard as it may be to dissociate the two, it’s important to actually take care of your mental health, instead of just posting about it. Sharonda (@sportymommas) discusses how to stay positive when life feels overwhelming, how to grow your followers, and more!

Q: What are your tips for balancing life and the pandemic?

There is no doubt that this year has been tough on all of us. I have definitely had my share of ups and downs. Surrounding myself with loved ones, reading self-help books, and journaling have truly helped me this year. Here are a few other ways to help find balance in 2020.

  1. Meditate and pray daily.
  2. Journal your feelings.
  3. Talk it out with a friend, loved one or therapist.
  4. Be kind to yourself.
  5. Unplug from social media.
  6. Listen to your favorite song.
  7. Go for a nature walk.
  8. Do something nice for someone else.
  9. Trust the process.
  10. Be still.

Q: When things feel overwhelming, how do you get yourself to feel positive?

I love positive affirmations and listening to uplifting podcasts. I have been a huge fan of Gabby Bernstein’s work. It’s great to post affirmations where you can see them like on the bathroom mirror or around your desk.

Q: What are your best self-care tips for people, especially moms?

If you are not practicing self-care, I highly recommend it. People think that you have to take a trip to the spa or go on a retreat for self-care, but it’s simply carving out some time for yourself daily. Watching a Netflix show by yourself is self-care. Exercising, reading a novel, or going for a drive solo are all great ideas for stress relief. As moms, we often feel guilty for taking a break, but we deserve a break too!

Q: What motivated you to start your social media account?

I decided to become active on social media as a way to grow my brand and reach women all over the world. I love sharing and inspiring moms to live their best lives at any age and embrace who they are. This journey is not always easy, and things are never as perfect as they seem in a photo. Life is hard, and we mess up sometimes but the most important thing is that we keep it moving and never quit.

Q: How did you grow your channel and amass your following?

Consistency is key. When I first started out years ago, I would post weekly but I quickly learned that you have to be active, post daily, engage with others, and take risks. If something isn’t working don’t be afraid to try something new.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

This social media world is always changing. We have to be flexible, willing to take risks, ask for help when we need it, and if you really want it…. Just do it!
